Selkirk 'A' brought down to earth
A FITTER and faster students side brought Selkirk
A's unbeaten league run to an abrupt end at Peffermill on Saturday.
The visitors' best spell of pressure came just before the interval, but the University team's well organised defence
held firm to preserve their 12-0 interval lead.
Two more tries by the students after the break put the result beyond doubt, with the match eventually having to
be stopped a few minutes before full-time because of a neck injury suffered by Selkirk prop Gary McColm. Fortunately
the injury was not as serious as at first feared.
Up until that point McColm had one of the few Selkirk players to shine, his solid scrummaging and stout tackling
helping to kee the Philiphaugh side in the game.
Unfortunately it just wasn't to be the Souters' day, and the visitors' misery was compounded when skipper Fraser
Jack limped from the field with a painful ankle injury, his place being taken by replacement Tom Walling, making
his first start of the season.
