Selkirk 'A' keep up promotion drive
TRAILING 14-0 after quarter of an hour to a big
Livingston side, it looked as though Selkirk A's winning streak in Division Three of the 2nd XV Leagues could be
in jeopardy at Almond Park on Saturday. However, the visitors' character shone through in a rousing second half,
which saw victory secured thanks to a five-try scoring burst.
The experience of fly-half Fraser Jack and prop Ian Purves was put to good use in the first half, with each player
scoring a try to keep their side in the game. Jim Ross kicked both conversions to make it 14-14 at the interval.
With the home pack now beginning to tire, Selkirk took full advantage to run in five tries through Fraser Jack,
Craig Hunter (2), Jim Ross and Neil Brown (who had another excellent game). Ross added three of the conversions
to put Selkirk out of sight.
The match marked a successful comeback for injured player Chris Kemp, who formed a useful partnership with Darren
Vevers and Greg Hancock in the back row. Newcomer Gavin Warnock, who hails from Duns but has been playing rugby
in the Bristol area, came off the bench to make his first appearance in a Selkirk jersey.
This was the final game of the season for Selkirk 'A' back row player Richard Cook, who has left to join the King's
Own Scottish Borderers. His team-mates made a special presentation to him after the match, and wish him all the
best in the months ahead.
This Saturday the Souters play East Kilbride in a league fixture at Philiphaugh, with the game kicking off at 2pm.
