STORMERS PUSH HADDINGTON ALL
THE WAY
ON a cold, stormy Saturday at Neilson Park, Selkirk
made life hard for themselves in this RBS Reserve League East Pod A game, by allowing Haddington to score straight
from the kick-off and go 7-0 up with less than 60 seconds on the clock.
Having won the toss and opted to play uphill into the wind, Stormers rallied and worked hard to reclaim the initiative,
but ended the half with only a Chris Shand penalty to show for their endeavours and a 7-3 interval scoreline.
With the elements in their favour after the break, Stormers found Haddington a tough nut to crack, and further
disappointment came when Shand was yellow-carded for backchat and the home side took advantage to run in two easy
tries, converting both.
With time running out Selkirk eventually showed some of their first half fighting spirit, and this pressure paid
off when Richard Cook picked up from the back of a scrum to score his second try in as many games.
Soon afterwards skipper Calvin Henderson drove over for Stormers’ second try, this time converted by Shand to pull
the score back to 21-15. Unfortunately time eventually ran out for Stormers, who nevertheless got a losing bonus
point for their efforts.
Richard Cook was named the coaches’ ‘Man of the Match’. This Saturday Stormers are home to North Berwick 2nds.
