DESPITE more than matching the city club up front,
some indifferent tackling behind the scrum allowed Stewart’s/Melville’s pacy threequarters to score a barrow-load
of tries to seal a convincing win in Saturday’s RBS Reserve League East Pod ‘A’ match at sunny Inverleith.
However, the Stormers certainly didn’t go down without a fight, securing a bonus point thanks to tries from Calvin
Henderson (2), Chris Fairbairn and Daniel Pringle. Ben Purves added one conversion.
The visitors’ cause wasn’t helped when number eight Neil Cruickshank limped to the sidelines with an ankle injury
as early as the third minute, his place being taken by Donny Mackenzie. In the second half Andy White and Bruce
Mercer also found themselves in the wars, being replaced by Duncan Lawson and Bruce ‘Brigend Bullet’ Armstrong.
Stormers’ coaches gave their Man of the Match award to lock Fraser Tough for a battling, never-say-die display
in the boilerhouse.
