1st XV off to promising start
SELKIRK made an encouraging opening to its Border
League campaign, with a 22-22 draw against first division side Jed-Forest at Riverside Park on Wednesday night.
The Souters outscored their opponents by two tries to one, with no fewer than five players making their senior
debuts for the Souters — Dwayne Jackson, Paul Lyons, Fred Stevenson and Craig Hunter.
The only downside of the game for Selkirk was the injury knock suffered by Fred Stevenson within minutes of taking
the field, and the former Hawick player was eventually replaced by Ewen Robbie.
Selkirk’s tries were scored by Michael Jaffray and Paul Lyons, with Guy Blair adding four penalties. Jed’s try
came from John Szkudro, with Gary Hill dropping a goal and Gary McGarva landing four penalties and a conversion.
